Developed in partnership with UNESCO, the Heritage Assessment of Chernihiv explores the city's architectural heritage as a foundation for its future. Combining heritage documentation, urban analysis, and development strategies, the project identifies opportunities for preservation, sustainable regeneration, and the enhancement of Chernihiv's cultural and tourism potential.
Chernihiv Oblast occupies one of the leading places in Ukraine in the number of cultural heritage sites. According to the state register, there are more than 9,000 of them in the region, of which 1,910 are of national importance. Chernihiv Oblast differs favourably from other regions of Ukraine in the number of preserved monuments of the pre-Mongol period: Spassky Cathedral, Borysoglib Cathedral, Anthony’s Caves, Illina Church, Dormition Cathedral of the Yelets Monastery, Pyatnytska Church in Chernihiv, Transfiguration Cathedral - in Novgorod-Siverskyi, Yury Eva Bozhnytsia is in Ostra.
